Johnny Appleseed!

We are good friends with Johnny Appleseed here at Winsted Elementary! Every year on his birthday - September 26th, he stops by to visit us! We were lucky enough to catch up with him yesterday. We sang happy birthday to him and asked him some questions like...what color apple was his favorite to eat? Why does he have a pot on his head? What does he do in winter when it's cold and he doesn't have shoes? We had a great visit with him and he left us apples to eat of our snack - yummy!

 Here he comes...

The Gingerbread Man!

Today was the day! We started learning about the gingerbread man...how after he was baked, he ran out of the oven and all around until he was eaten by a fox! This morning, we made some giant gingerbread cookies and let the students decorate them. We dropped them off with our cook, Ms. Deb, for baking and when we went to pick them up, she said he had run away! He left a note saying that he ran to the gym...so we went to the gym. We found another note that said he ran to the office...so we went to the office. He left another note that said he ran to music...so we went to music. He left another note that said he went to the library...so we went to the library. He left another note that said he went to 4th grade and then 1st grade...so we headed there and found one last note that said he ran to Mrs. Heuer's room! When we got to the room, the door was locked but after opening it up...we found him! He was delicious! We ate him for snack!
