Computer Lab

We got in the computer lab week to check out our computer skills - using the mouse, using the headphones, etc. The kids got to explore PBS Kids. This week we were in there to take our Star Testing - new testing required by the district. The kids were troopers!

Colors!

We are almost through with our review of colors. We just have Roy G. Biv day on Monday (your child can wear the colors of the rainbow!) when we'll be making and eating Rainbow Cake for snack. For Brown day, we finger painted with chocolate pudding. We followed the recipe on the box to make it together and then got to paint with it. The kiddos could also lick their fingers when done painting with it. It was a delicious day!
 Smelling the chocolate pudding!

Everyone got to mix it 5 times!

Word Birds!

Congratulations on getting a new pet at home on Monday! Your child's Word Bird! If you haven't done so, please hang it in a safe spot. New words will be coming home each week to add to the pocket. Please help your child practice learning and reading these new words as often as possible! Your child will bring home new words each Monday in an envelope. Please empty the envelope and return it to school the next day! Thank you for your help and support!

Morning Work and Teacher Amanda

Every morning (except Fridays), after our morning meeting, the students do one section of morning work (this sheet comes home every Thursday). The skills that we work on during this time reinforce what we are learning in math and reading. Check out the students working on their morning work below...
After our morning work, we follow Teacher Amanda (a real teacher in the Bloomington Public Schools) as she helps us review letters and letter sounds. Here we are watching her on the Smart Board. You can check it out at home with this link: https://www.bloomington.k12.mn.us/academic-student-services/curriculum/elementary/kindergarten/early-success-videos-1
We have only gone through the Alphabet Chant so far but we will be following more of her videos as the year progresses!

The Year Begins...

We have had a busy and wonderful first week of school! The students have been listening to me talk on and on and on about rules. I feel like the teacher from the Peanuts cartoons...whaw, whaw, whaw! But, we are getting our routine and rules down so it's really nice! Here is what our daily schedule looks like (subject to change).

8:10 - First Bell
8:15 - School Starts
Table Explorations
8:30 - Pledge of Allegiance and singing of You're a Grand Ol' Flag
Morning Meeting
8:45 - Reading/Language Arts

Check out this video!

I took a break today from getting ready for Open House to record a story for you! Click on the link to watch it. It's all about getting ready for the first day of kindergarten. I had some difficulty with the photos - my lighting wasn't the best but you should still be able to enjoy it!

I'll see you on the first day of school!

And we start again...

Welcome to the 2015 - 2016 school year!
I have been in the classroom the past couple of weeks starting to get things ready and I am feeling pretty set for our open house on Monday night. I can't wait to meet everyone.

I will be trying really hard to keep our classroom blog updated at least once a week. This will be my main way that I communicate with you what we re doing in our classroom. Feel free to share the photos and blog posts with your kindergarten child as we go throughout the year.

Watch soon for further additions!
