It's official! Our I Love to Read Month is now starting! Our first event was a whole school gathering to learn about our Read-a-thon. Your child will have an envelope with information that should be in his/her take home folder explaining it all. We are asking each child/family to track how many minutes they read each month. On Wednesdays, we'll send home a little reading ticket that will tell you how much we read in school. You add on how many minutes were read at home on the ticket and return it to school every Thursday. If you want to try to earn a 'free' reading shirt (they are awesome!), you just need to read a certain amount and raise a certain amount of money. If you are choosing not to do this as a fundraiser, please still let us know how many minutes your child reads each week!
At our gathering this morning, we also had some staff members who had to try to put book titles in the correct grade level. We asked students in all grades what their favorite book was and compiled the top three per grade level. Staff members had to put copies of the book covers (that were tapes on the back of 4th graders) at the correct grade. It was funny and challenging!
After returning to our classrooms, we also got to go to the Book Walk and pick out a 'new to us' book that we can keep! AWESOME!
