Star Testing

We finally got our Star Testing done on Thursday after many mishaps! Your child will be taking this test 3 more times this school year to show how much s/he has grown. The students did a great job at taking their first test on the computer!

Applesauce!

Today we made applesauce! The kids first got to peel and cut an apple with our cool apple corer!

The applesauce starting to cook in the crock pot...after putting in a little sugar and some cinnamon! It cooked all day and our room smelled delicious!
Here is what the finished product looked like cooking in the cups!

 Trying it out!

Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!

Today we celebrated Johnny Appleseed's Birthday! We made headbands that looked like a pot as he always wore one on his head (which we saw in the books that we read about him today!). We then got a note from him saying that he was coming through town today...on his BIRTHDAY! After recess, he came right by school and stopped to chat with us. He also gave us some apples to eat for snack. What a guy! He said that he was on his way up north to check on the apples up there. What a day!
Here we are with pots on our heads! Make sure to ask you child why Johnny wears one on his head!

 Waiting for him to come...
 Here he comes...
Pot on head...no shoes...carrying a bag of apples!
 A group photo!

Gingerbread Man Science Experiment

We have been busy reading different versions of the Gingerbread Man and comparing and contrasting them. We've also made, chased and ate a Gingerbread Man cookie. Yesterday, we did our first science experiment, created by Mrs. Kaeter, that had to do with a Gingerbread Man cookie. The kids had to create a hypothesis on what they thought would happen if the cookie would cross the river. After a real cookie was put in a tub of water and taking some time to listen to another Gingerbread Man story, they got to see what happened to the cookie! It was pretty gross!

Putting the cookie in the 'river' and checking it out to draw it on our papers.

Here is what we had to fill out...
The gingerbread man soaking in the 'river'
 Gross!!!

Eating a cookie for a bonus snack!

Roy G. Biv Day!

Did you know that Roy G Biv stands for all the colors of the rainbow? R = red, o = orange, y = yellow, G = green, B = blue, i = indigo and v stands for Violet? Today we made a Roy G. Biv craft and also made and ate a rainbow cake. Delicious!!!
To make a rainbow cake...take a white cake mix and prepare it as directed on the box...

Take out some batter and place in 3 separate bowls. Add yellow food coloring to one, blue to another and red to the last one - mix well.
Pour the white cake mix in a  pan...
Add blobs of the colored cake mix...

Let the kids take a Popsicle stick to mix the colors...

 Looks Yummy, huh?
We also made a Roy G. Biv craft - they are hanging in the hallway across from our classroom. Aren't they cool?
The finished project with frosting and sprinkles!

Getting ready to eat our snack! What a delicious day!
