Johnny Appleseed!

On Tuesday, September 26th, Johnny Appleseed stopped by our school to visit with our kindergarten classes. It was his birthday so we first sang Happy Birthday to him! He then talked about what he does - plant apple seeds to grow apple trees and he also told us that his favorite food made out of apples is apple pie. He wore a pot on his head (to cook apples in and to protect his head) and didn't wear any shoes (he said it made it faster to get dressed in the morning!). He brought us some yellow, green and red apples that we taste tested for snack (and graphed our favorite).

The Gingerbread Man!

Last week, we read many different stories about the gingerbread man (and boy and girl and baby!). We discussed the characters in each story and the refrain that the gingerbread cookie kept saying. See photo below:)

On Friday, each class then made their own giant gingerbread cookie for snack! We then took it to the kitchen for Ms. Patty to bake them for us - telling her to not peek as the gingerbread man has been known to run away!

We picked up the cookie and guess what!?! He had run away! He left us a note telling us he had run to the gym. Off to the gym we went. Mr. Oltmanns, our PE teacher, saw something running through the gym really fast but couldn't catch him but we found another note! It said he had run to the office.

So, off to the office we go! When we get there, Mrs. Stifter and Mrs. Olson were too busy and didn't see anything but we found another note! It said that he ran to the music room!

We then headed to see Mrs. LeClair in the music room. She did not see the gingerbread man but we found another note. It said he ran to a place where there are a lot of books.

Off we went to the library! Ms. Jess, our library para also did not see him but we found another note! It said that he ran to 4th grade!

Off we went to 4th grade! Mrs. Gallagher was outside with all of the 4 grade kids but Mr. Goudy was there! He didn't see the gingerbread man but we found another note! It said he had run to 1st grade!

Off we went to first grade! We were getting tired! When we got to first grade, they also hadn't seen him but we found another note. This time is said that he was in our classrooms!

Off we went to our classrooms. When we got here however, our door was locked! After unlocking the door and looking around we finally found him - sleeping on his baking pan!

And we finally ate him for snack! Yummy!
