Let's talk about our calendar time...

We go through a calendar routine every day after PE. We start with talking about the day of the week - for example...today is Wednesday, March 31st. Yesterday was Tuesday, March 30th, Tomorrow will be Thursday, April 1st. We then add a circle to our 10 frames and count by 10s. Then, we add a number to our counting chart. If someone lost a tooth, s/he gets to write their name on our tooth. A tally mark is added to our tally mark sheet so that the students can get used to tally marks and we count them by 5s. We then add a penny to our money counting chart. While learning coins and their values is not a kindergarten skill, we practice it daily so that when they get it in first grade, it should hopefully come easier to them! We exchange money as needed - 5 pennies for a nickel, etc. We then add a cube to our hundreds/tens/ones counting chart. Again, this is not a skill that needs to be learned in kindergarten but the exposure should help them in future grades. Next, we practice skip counting - we're skip counting by 2s now! Your child should be pretty proficient at skip counting by 10s and 5s so we've moved on to 2s. Again, this is not a skill that needs to be mastered in kindergarten but it will help them with addition and multiplication in future years! Our last thing we do? Read a chapter in a chapter book. Right now, we're reading a Junie B. Jones book.

Our March calendar - we were keeping track of how many lion and lamb days we had!

Our ten frames that we fill in. It also helps us count by 10s.
Our counting chart - we talk about how to make the numbers when I write them on here.
Our tally mark paper - so many tally marks!
Our money chart. Not much money on their now but we talk about all the coins and the dollar bill.
Our hundreds, tens and ones chart.
We're counting by 2s. I just changed the calendar to April and we'll now be counting by 2s to 100!
Last, we read a chapter of a chapter book. We have read all the Mercy Watson books and 1 Magic Tree House book. But, our favorite is Junie B. Jones! She's a funny and slightly naughty little girl but we have great conversations in here about not doing and saying what Junie B. does and says!

Special Show and Tell

Today for Show and Tell, while we had some super cool things that were shared...the most meaningful one was a visit from Henry's dad via Google Meet. He is stationed in Kuwait and he joined us for Henry's Show and Tell today! We asked him many questions and we thank him for all of his answers and for his time and for his service! Many Thanks!

Leprechaun - Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It happened again! The pesky, messy, funny leprechaun came to our classroom today! This morning, we were locked out of our room. After finding keys to unlock the door, we walked into a mess! There were green footprints all over, things all over the floor and candy! Yes, even though the leprechaun left a mess, he also left us candy, necklaces and cookies for snack! The rest of our day was spent making a windsock leprechaun and during free time, many of our friends were making leprechaun traps. It was a good day!

Put the "I" in Kindness!

Our school theme for the month of February was kindness. Mrs. K, our school counselor, hung up a photo opportunity where the students could be the "I" in kindness! Check it out!
